Homosexuals are no saints. Heterosexuals aren’t either. As far as we can tell, Maria Magdalena was heterosexual. When the Christian Lord is reported to have said : “let he who is without sin cast the first stone”, he might as well have thought : “let he who never, even remotely, considered sodomizing a woman criticize gay people”.
Yesterday, the president of Gambia, His Heterosexual Excellency Jammeh, called homosexuality “one of the biggest threats to human existence” (1). Homosexuality is vicious, this we won’t deny, but for a leader not to be able to keep his hands out of his citizens’ pants is even more so, and for a man who knows himself to fear something he is, theoretically, not party to is outright childish, unless, of course, one’s purpose is that of a demagogue using a well-oiled strategy, namely stigmatizing a minority, to keep the majority’s backing, in Gambia’s case the vast Muslim community. It remains perverse in any case, for it was not man but God Himself who destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, if we are to believe either the Qur’an, or the Torah, also known as the Ancient Testament.
Though not all inhabitants of those cities were homosexual, sodomy and permanent debauchery – in other words insults to civilization – were not the exception, as homosexuality will always remain, but the unspoken rule, hence God being pissed off. Indeed, nowhere in any Holy scripture does He, whatever his Earthly name may be, doom any particular homosexual, nor condone their individual persecution. One might argue that Nature welcomes homosexuality – why else would it be present in the animal reign ? – as long as it remains numerically marginal, which is why, culturally, only legitimate individual consent should matter. Nature embraces diversity; diversity is Nature’s language as well as its form. Therefore, calling for its eradication is a crime against God !
Much more worthy of interest are the two other sins Jammeh mentioned in his address, namely greed and obsession for world domination. When French gay mogul Bergé recently declared he saw “no difference between [a woman] renting out her womb [to allow other couples to procreate through her] or one renting out one’s arms in a factory”, I, along with many others, opposed him vigorously (2), for in such a quote lies – to put it simply – the premise of God’s wrath. Marketing the female body, using children as social experiments, denying human feelings and foolhardily changing the fabric of civilization, I consider to be moral crimes. Whether I am in tune with God on this subject, the future will tell. Expanding the scope of social injustice, reinventing new modes of slavery, maintaining the fabric of inequality, are social crimes. As far as his quote is concerned, Bergé and people like him are a disgrace to Humanity, an abomination to civilization, a denial of femininity, a shit-stained postcard from Sodom and Gomorrah !
Greed and exploitation are the enemy, indeed. They are in Gambia and in Africa as a whole, through countless coups backed and financed by the North in order to ensure the vigor of neo-colonialism, as anywhere else in today’s world : in the US, where foolish fossils are again holding an entire population hostage in the name of the 1 %, but also in Belgium, where none of the puppets at the top seem to have drawn the conclusions from the 2008 disaster. Greedy banksters responsible for financial crimes (3), top managers of public companies ubiquitously collecting seats in major boards (4), incompetent elected officials outrageously claiming morally undue privileges in times of famine (5) : all are back at it again as if nothing ever happened; none has learned the lesson the soft way.
Are they not, after all, “exceptionally” megalomaniac ?…
